 ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Tammy Garner began her artistic journey in early childhood and has worked with
a variety of mediums over the years. She started working in polymer clay in 1994
and metal clay in 2004, with her main focus on jewelry.
She received her certification in Precious Metal Clay in 2007. Her work has
been featured in
Polymer Clay Creative Traditions
by Judy Belcher, private and
public art showings and has won several awards. She is a member of the PMC
Guild, National Polymer Clay Guild, the West Virginia Art and Craft Guild and
is currently the president of the Kanawha Valley Polymer Clay Guild.
Tammy is a metal clay and polymer clay instructor who also dabbles in sterling
silver, copper, enamel, fused glass, fibers and paint. She proudly retails her works
of art under the name a Peace of Art. She resides in St. Albans, West Virginia,
with her husband, Jerry, daughter, Scarlet, and her two feline companions.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I would like to thank North Light Books for giving me this fab-
ulous, and unexpected, opportunity to write this book. Thanks
to some of my wonderful mentors—Olivia, Kim, Judy and
Marcia—for so graciously believing in my work and always
trying to push me, sometimes kicking and screaming, down
that professional artist’s path. Without them and my other
artsy pals (you know who you are) I definitely would not be
where I am today.
DEDICATION
I would like to dedicate this book to a few. To God, for grant-
ing me peace in my heart and blessing me with this wonder-
ful gift that I can share with others. To my late father, who
kept me supplied with all the markers, crayons, paper and
love a child could ever want, and who instilled in me the
desire to always strive for perfection. To my mother, who
raised me to be a strong, independent and unselfish individ-
ual, and who taught me to never hide in the shadows but to
always jump out in front and “shine.” To my husband, who,
ever so quietly, allows me to remain on that road of “artistic
ambition” by continuing my art education instead of refining
my domestic skills. To my baby girl, a teenager and “closet
artist,” who agrees to help burnish, sand or string beads if
she can talk on the phone while doing so. To my brother,
an exceptional musician, who always supports me and thinks
all my work is “really cool” even when, sometimes, it’s not.
I love you all!
I want to give a big thanks to Jennifer Claydon, Christine
Polomsky and Amanda Dalton for being so kind, generous
and a laugh-a-minute while listening to all my corny jokes and
“Tammyisms.” They are my forever and only “Tree Stick Pals.”
I definitely want to thank all the companies that kindly
donated materials for this book, and they are PMC Supply; Art
Clay World USA; Polyform Products; Ranger Industries; Rupert,
Gibbon & Spider, Inc., manufacturer of Jacquard Products;
Artistic Wire Ltd.; and Henkel Corporation, manufacturer of
Loctite Products. I appreciate their generosity, and I will con-
tinue to work with and promote their products.
